Heating and Cooling Tips

Tips to keep you cool in the summer

Have your AC serviced in the spring when it is around 70-80 degrees.

  • It is better to beat the rush of summer and Bowman Heating and Air will have more appointments available.
  • When we service your AC, we can often prevent future problems and maximize the efficiency and life of your AC unit.

Change your filter once per month.

  • The #1 cause of premature AC and heating failure is not changing the filter.
  • When you pay a monthly bill (cell phone, electric, or gas), change your filter.

Wash your outside AC unit (condenser) at least once per year.

  • Turn off your AC with the thermostat.
  • Using your water hose with a spray nozzle, start from the top of your outside and wash down toward the bottom on all sides. Do not angle the water stream because you may bend the coils. (This service is included in our preventive maintenance packages)
  • TURN THE THERMOSTAT BACK TO COOL! You don’t want to pay a service fee to have your thermostat turned on.

Things to check before you call Bowman Heating and Air for service

  1. Check the thermostat to see if it is set to heat or cool. Sometimes the problem is simply that the thermostat is not turned on correctly!
  2. Change your filter.
  3. Check your breakers. If they are tripped, reset them no more than one time. You may have had a power surge or another major issue.
  4. These tips may just save you money.
  5. After all of these tips are completed and there is still a problem, call Bowman Heating and Air.
